Caroline’s cheeks darkened to crimson. “I suppose I had a bit too much to drink,” she admitted in a quiet voice. “Oh, how my head aches!”
Jack looked at her for a moment as if weighing his options in his head. Then, he extended a hand to Caroline. After a moment, she took it, and he lifted her to her feet in a practiced, easy gesture that would have made her swoon had she not felt so rotten.
“Come,” Jack said gruffly. “I’ve got the thing for you.”
Caroline frowned. Had she married a man who was overly fond of drinking? Or was this something that men just knew how to do, like ride a horse and shoot a gun?
